Weekend Events – Sample Sales, Fashion Shows, Festivals & More


The weekend truly starts on Thursday night.  It’s a great weekend to get your fashion fix, whether it’s at a fashion show, manufacturing event mixer, the Vintage Clothing & Style Festival, the Fort Mason sample sale, the American Craft Council Show or one of the many other events listed.  Whatever you do, enjoy your weekend in style!

Going to a museum is always fashionably fun.  Thursday evening the MoMA is open late for their  MoMA Nights with live entertainment, speciality drinks, chef catered tasting menus and more.  Artist Mark Ryden will be at the MoMa autographing his latest book.  The California Academy of Sciences is hosting their Nightlife event featuring a live performance from the band Dawes.  The de Young has their Impressionism At Twilight, where you can get inspired by the impressionism art and enjoy a special French prix fixe menu.  Other fashion events include the following:

Alexandra Szoenyi is the latest featured stylist at Bianca Starr’s Stylist Boutique.  The Stylist Boutique is a monthly event where a fashion industry expert gives up 20 to 30 of their favorite fashionable items for consignment to the Bianca Starr boutique.   In addition they are asked to design the storefront window to their creative, stylish heart’s desire .  Rumor has it that Alexandra is parting with one of her favorite Christian Dior bags for the event!  Come check out what Alexandra had in her closet and shop while you enjoy drinks and music.

Joji Starr and Chimowitz Clothing are bringing together their first fashion show to SF.  Our Westside Story is the tale of a designer from the Big Apple meets an artist from the Bay, bridging styles coast to coast.  Doors open at 9:00 PM and the fashion show starts at 11:00 PM.  Admission is $7.

Fashion lovers often times also enjoy fine food.  Friday kick-offs the  tweservation Food Challenge at SFChefs 2010 event Hog in The Fog Opening Party, featuring tastings from an impressive line-up of chefs.  This is a weekend long food festival.  The de Young is also hosting their Friday Nights at the de Young with live entertainment, music, art, food and drinks.  Other fashion events to enjoy include the following:
This is East meets Retro-Modern.  The union of traditional Indian styles with a 50s American twist.  Designs by Prija Bhikha.  Admission is $5 and includes light snacks.  Items will be on sale afterwards.
More than 250 new and established artists will present their latest handcrafted jewelry, clothing, furniture, home decor, and more.  Friday features a special Etsy Craft Bar at their $5 after 5 event.  Admission is only $5 after 5:00 PM and you’re able to enjoy all the offerings of the show in addition to the special Etsy Craft Bar.  Admission is $12 and $18 for a 2-day pass.
Escape to Sonoma for an evening of fashion, music, film, food and wine.  The $5 admission includes parking, garden tours, fashion show, music and films.  The Revigor debut fashion show is featuring pieces from the Custom Collection, the ready-to-wear Revigor 8 Collection and one-of-a-kind pieces (one of which has already been to the White House).
Levi’s Workshop presents a night of celebrating artists and music from the North end and South end of the golden state.  There will also be limited edition prints from artist and clothing designer Option-G (LA) and Mars One (SF).  RSVP to attend.

The American Craft Council Show continues today and the tweservation Food Challenge with SF Chefs is hosting their Fork It Over Fundraiser.  Quoted as “San Francisco Style-Bliss”, Outside Lands kicks-off today with their weekend of music, food, wine and art.  Check out their site for the line-up of entertainment and participating vendors.  BayParty.net and “Where Hip Hop Meets Couture” Fashion Show (November) seem to also be hosting a special pre-party in a SF loft featuring a guest designer, music, drinks and more.  Other fashion events to enjoy include:

Wella Professionals in partnership with local salons (Cowboys & Angels, Wak Shack, Secret Agent Salon & Supply, and Edward’s Salon) are offering free consultations to help women discover their best haircolor.  In addition, participants will receive a 25% off coupon towards a Wella color service at a participating salon.  There will also be gift card giveaways and other treats! 
The 7th Annual Fashion On The Square is an afternoon of celebrity hosts, entertainment and runway shows featuring local Bay Area designers Daniel Sudar, Picky Studio, Justin Jamison, Jill Alexander Designs, G82 Designs,  Prima Jiva and others.  General Admission is $21.50 and VIP seats are $26.00.
The Art Deco Society of California presents their annual Getting Ready for Gatsby event.  This is the place to buy outfits, accessories and get picnic tips for the upcoming annual Summer Gatsby Afternoon.    This event is held in conjunction with the Vintage Clothing & Style Festival where attendees can learn about era appropriate fashion, hair, clothing, and picnics while shopping from vintage clothing vendors.  There will be a vintage fashion presentation, hair and makeup demos, live music, and more.  Vintage attire admired, but not required.  Admission is $25 and $15 for ADSC members.  Ticket includes complimentary return ticket for Sunday’s Vintage Clothing & Style Sale.
In celebration of America’s Next Top Designer, join The Barber Lounge in sending designer Jonathan Baker  to Fashion Week in New York.  This event includes a fashion show featuring the designs of Bethany Meuleners, Sabah Mansoor Hussain, Stephanie Hoffman, Rinat Brodach, and Yuzuan Chen.  There will also be a special musical performance by Rachel Silva.  Ticket cost is $20 presale and $25 at the door and includes food and wine by Three Clicks and Muirwood Kitchen and Catering.  Call (415) 934-0411 for presale tickets.

The American Craft Council Show, Vintage Clothing & Style Festival, Wella Professionals Color Discovery Tour and Outside Lands festival continues today.  Stern Grove Festival is happening today with a free concert at 2:00 PM with Maceo Parker, a legend of funk, and Bay Area soul singer Darondo.  Other fashion events to enjoy include:
This is the Second Annual Vintage Clothing & Style Festival with a Vintage Travel theme!  Dozens of fabulous vendors will be selling fine vintage clothing for women, men and children.  There will be a vintage fashion presentation, hair and makeup demonstrations, live entertainment and more.  General admission is $7.
Step into the most luxurious bridal event of 2010, filled with decadent hors d’oeuvres and gourmet tastings from renowned chefs, champagne and martini bars, a runway show and over 80 exhibitors.  This event will be featuring a Vera Wang and Monique Lhuiller fashion show at 1:00 and 2:30 PM.  Admission is $20.
Prepare for the Playa is throwing their last event for the summer.  Over 50 Burner businesses and designers will be featuring their products and services.  A funky Playa inspired fashion shows at 2:00 and 5:00 PM will be showcasing the greatest Burning Couture for Burning Man 2010.  No cost to attend.
