Weekend Events – Fashion Shows, Workshops, Trunk Shows

We just had a streak of warm SF weather and now the overcast weather has come in.  Don’t let that prevent you from getting out and having some summer fun.  Some of the highlights during the weekend include the Fashion Fights Aids fashion show on Friday, The Crucible’s “Heat: A Fire Cabaret”, and The Evolution (of Fashion) runway show on Sunday.  Plus, Sunday will be the perfect day to do some outdoor shopping at the Indie Mart.  Whatever you do, enjoy your weekend in style.
FRIDAY
My Boudoir Lingerie is kicking off a July sale where guests can learn about alternative transportation and the underwear that goes with it!  This boutique will be featuring Pedal Panties’ Bicycle Lingerie, which provides fashionable alternatives to traditional bike clothing.  PUBLIC Bikes will be on-hand to showcase their bikes and offer special deals for attendees.  Special prizes and gift certificates will be given out throughout the evening.  This is a fun shopping event you won’t want to miss!
SF based clothing line, Chan.nel Karama Ltd., will be presenting their A/W 2010 RTW collection and Swimwear 2010 with an event called Kre8 (create): Pure Imagination.  Kre8 draws upon an inventive theatrical theme to construct an experience for the patrons in attendance by providing a viewing of the latest Couture and Ready-ToWear collections for Chan.nel Karama Ltd.  Tickets are $10 presale and $15 at the door.



The Crucible is hosting their first ever Fire Cabaret.  The Crucible’s events are known for inspiring creativity and style.  This fantastically fiery evening will be filled with walk-through performance installations, fire sculptures, industrial art demonstrations, photo opportunities and a theatrical stage show.  Guests are encouraged to dress up and walk around the sizzling interactive experience.  Tickets range from $35 to $45.

Fashion Fights Aids is a benefit fashion show in support of AIDS Walk SF.  Over 15 local designers have come together to showcase their designs and bring awareness and support in the global fight against AIDS.  General admission is $15 and VIP seating is $25.  All proceeds are going to the San Francisco AIDS Foundation.
Chance, the Northwest’s monthly fashion networking event is coming to San Francisco.  This is an interactive event geared towards developing resources within the fashion community.  Seattle designers will be showcasing their works, including PoirierRenes RopasDNASam St. Michael and Lina Zeineddine.  Local designer GG Connections will also be featuring her works.  RSVP to be on the guest list.
Swimsuit designer Constance Ng will be featuring her collection in a fashion show at the grand opening of Jet Set Niteclub in San Mateo.  Come check out this latest nightclub venue and the beautiful swimsuit collection of Constance Ng.  RSVP to be on the guest list.
SATURDAY
The Beehive Market is a green lifestyle market featuring a wide range of vendors including beauty/personal care, apparel, and household products.  The vendors produce locally with sustainable material – organic, recycled, reused.  This event will also feature live music and entertainment.
Clothing designer Barbara Beccio has an MFA in Costume and Lighting Design for Theatre, which has led her to explore not only period clothing shapes but also unusual shapes that stretch the normal considerations on construction.  She will demonstrate her clothing design and construction process to artfully envelope the 3 dimensional shapes of the human form.  General adult admission is $15. 
Lynda Grose Silva is an Associate Professor of California College of the Arts, author and industry consultant on sustainability.  Lynda and her students will “perform” on a Brother Silver Reed machine by knitting on command.  Watch the pattern emerge as they “play.”  Today’s knitting machines use needles, cams and punch cards to create complex patterns of wearable texture and topology.  Using a knitting machine is an art and skill of its own.  General adult admission is $15.
The expert artisans who make our clothes and furniture use geometry everyday.  See master upholsterer Mike Boloyan and an expert clothing designer share the skills and techniques they use to transform two-dimensional fabrics into striking, three-dimensional pieces of furniture or custom-made couture.  General adult admission is $15.
Blue Macaw is hosting their weekly Artist Market, featuring the works of local designers and artists.  Come enjoy their drink and food specials while you shop each of the designers’ collections.
SFFAMA is hosting this unique event that includes a fashion movie “FIFTEEN MINUTES”, a fashion media booth, sample sale, trunk show, beauty tips and more.  Participants include Malin Namita Couture, Rock Chiq, Rebel Voices, Work Clothes and many more.  Cost to attend is $10 suggested donation and $5 with a clothing donation of up to 5 items.

SUNDAY

Don’t miss the hottest mom and baby shopping event in the Bay Area!  Shop from over 50 designers offering stylish baby and toddler clothing, adorable accessories, gear, and much more all at a discounted price.  This event also includes gifts and special prizes.  Admission is $5 at www.appelandfrank.com or at the door, and includes a gift bag (supplies limited).
The Indie Mart is hitting the streets of Potrero Hill again with over 90 designers bringing the best makers, designers, vintage, handmade unique goodies, art, baked treats and much more.  There will be interactive vendors offering customization or showing people how it’s made.  While you shop, enjoy live bands and DJ music.  Only $3 to get in, all ages.


After shopping at the Indie Fest, you can walk over to Project One for a spectacular trunk show.  Flo’s Closet is hosting a trunk show featuring the designs from Miranda Caroligne, Ghetto Goldilocks, Silver Lucy, Miss G, Minerva’s Antennae, Freedom Fibers, Dervish and others.  Come grab an  afternoon drink and enjoy shopping!

The Evolution event is a bi-yearly fashion show dedicated to the promotion of local fashion designers and artists.  The theme for this event is “Fashion Through the Years.”  Each designer has been asked to select a historic time period and create works of art that they feel best exemplifies the fashion of that era.  Featured designers include Gail B. Shrive (GB Shrive Designs)Charlie Fisher (Invisible Hero Industries)Caley Johnson (Miss G Designs)Ashton MiyakoDaryoush Bahar and jewelry designs by Alison Rutherfurd of Red Haute Jewelry.  Cost of admission is $5 presale or $10 at the door.
Elegance Event Planners present their second annual Runway Confessions 2010 Pre-Fall Collections.  This is  a fashion show benefit to provide scholarships to local student designers to further their education in the fashion industry.  The evening starts off with wining and dining at 6:00 PM followed by the fashion show at 8:00 PM.  Participating designers include Heather Guevarra Arcega of Gingerbread Clothing, Deanna Cazares, Natasha Chiba, Michelle Earney, Yadira Galindo, Serena Hughes, Ashley Kelley, Lauren Matsumoto, My Tran, Ri Couture, Tracey Phillips, Anna Belaya, Mary Meg, Vanessa Munoz, and Bbeauty Designs.  Ticket prices range from $25 to $65.
