The San Francisco Bead and Design Show is coming up this May 21 through 23, 2010 at Hotel Whitcomb, 1231 Market Street, San Francisco. The event is by Garan-Beadagio, a family ran exposition that has been hosting these events for the last five years. The bead and design show focuses on promoting traditional hand-work as it relates to art and design. The idea is to demonstrate the originality, passion, and inspiration that go into fine handwork, including its natural materials and classic techniques, in a range of traditions and styles.
More than 150 exhibitors –artists and artisans –will display and sell one-of-a-kind luxury items and design products, including precious stones, designer jewelry, contemporary, vintage, and antique beads, gold and silver metalwork, cloisonné, ceramics, handmade clothing, art couture, handbags, embroideries, wearable art, millinery, hand-painted silks, textiles, embellishments, collectibles, antiquities, and objets d’art. There will also be workshops and demonstrations in techniques such as jewelry design, textile arts, metalwork, marketing, bead making, mixed media, found object jewelry, chainmaille, and clay.
Show director Anna K. Johnson extends a warm welcome to everyone: “You have to experience ‘bead and design’ for yourself to appreciate its incredible assortment of fine products. Or summon your inner creativity and take a workshop –either way you will have a wonderful time!”
Some of the local SF Bay Area designers include Carol de Maintenon, Laura Seeley, Juliet Anderson, Dotty Calabrese, Marcia Harmon, Shirl Strong, Onie Burge and Jennifer Osner. There will be many more designers coming from all over the country selling one-of-a-kind wearable art pieces, jewelry, clothing and accessories. In addition, merchants with be creating one-of-a-kind pieces on the spot with their artistic supplies including antiquities, vintage findings, handmade beads, textiles and gemstones.
The San Francisco Bead and Design Show is May 21 – 23, 2010, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM Friday through Sunday. It is open to the public, retail and wholesale. Register online or at the door. Admission $10, good for all three days. The Civic Center Bart Station is at the hotel’s front entrance. There will also be valet parking for $7.
